Chrissy Lofgren Goes to State! (and other important notes)

Congratulations to Chrissy for placing a very strong 2nd to Emi Trost at the section meet last night and advancing to the state meet on November 2, Saturday, 1:00 p.m. at St. Olaf college in Northfield.  Awesome performance! Another awesome performance was James' 10th place finish overall which ended up being 1 place shy of advancing to the state meet.  That was a heart-breaker for all of us. James had a very successful season regardless!

Our girls placed 5th out of 22 teams, hitting their goal. Strong, focused running on the part of everyone.  Well done ladies!  The boys ran well and had strong individual performances.  James in 10th place, Dylan with a PB by 16 seconds, and Isaiah a strong showing for a tough varsity field.  Good job!

I will let you know if there will be opportunity to take extra people to cheer Chrissy on next Saturday. If not, it would be up to individuals to find their way to Northfield. We hope to see a good Stewartville contingent there one way or another!

Reminder that our banquet will be on Thursday, November 7, at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.  It will be a potluck, so everyone bring a dish to pass.  The Boosters will provide plates, silverware and a beverage.

Finally, turn in clean uniforms and sweatsuits as soon as you can to Coach Tuseth's room.  If possible, put them in a plastic bag with your name on it so I can check it off.

Section Meet Details

The Section meet will be held Thursday, October 24th at Northern Hills Golf Course in Rochester.  The boys race will begin at 4:00 and the girls race at 4:45.  All grades will be going to cheer on the varsity runners.  After the meet, about 6 p.m. we have the community room reserved at Old Country Buffet for our team and any family members that would like to join us.  The athletes' meals will be paid for by the booster fund.

HVL Conference

The teams did an outstanding job in their HVL performances.  Three received All-Conference honors.  They are James Mathison (6th), Chrissy Lofgren(2nd) and Marie Larson (8th).  Good job Runners!  Overall the girls placed 3rd behind Lake City and Lourdes.

Several of the runners had personal best performances. They are: Marie Larson (-1:04), Alaina Goff (-1.0), Lauren Mikel, (-13.0); Dylan Deetz, (-4.0) and Isaiah Scruggs (-2:07).  Awesome job! Practices will continue this week for those that are running next week. Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., Thursday and Friday at 8:30 a.m.  Fire-up for Sections!

Upcoming Dates

Just a reminder that we have concessions to run on Wednesday night, the 16th and I just got word that we will possibly have a tournament game on Saturday, October 26th as well.  I will let you know when I know for sure, but it would be greatly appreciated if you would pencil that in on your calendars because we will be needing your help.

The end of season banquet is being planned for Thursday, November 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the cafeteria. More details to follow.  If you have been taking pictures and would like to submit them for a slideshow, you could send them on a flash drive with your son/daughter or if you have another method, please let me know.

Appropriate Attire for Runners

For those runners still competing, the HVL meet on Tuesday looks to be a chilly, possibly rainy day.  The high at this point is 54 and feels like 47 with a chance of rain.  If an athlete wants to wear something under their uniform, they can do so, but it must match with their teammates in color.  Therefore, if you don't have black running tights or "Under Armour" for a top, you may want to consider getting some if you think you will be needing extra clothing for warmth. This is purely optional IF you wear the extra clothing underneath!

Notes

The Runners did an excellent job on Tuesday in Austin.  Junior high concluded their practices with the exception of next Monday when we will all meet for practice before Tuesday's HVL meet in Hayfield.  It will be a fun practice!

All runners will be able to attend the remaining two meets at Hayfield (HVL) and Northern Hills Golf Course in Rochester (Sections) to cheer on those that are still competing.  Since junior high had one less meet than varsity (Swain), they were given the option to compete as junior varsity at conference if they want to.  A few have taken the offer.  They are continuing to practice on their own.

We dismiss at 2:35 next Tuesday and depart at 2:45 for Hayfield.  Schedule is as follows:
4:30 Boys JV
4:35 Girls JV
5:00 Girls Varsity
5:30 Boys Varsity

The top 21 finishers on each varsity race will be recognized as earning All-Conference honors.

On October 24, Thursday, the Varsity only will compete at the Section meet. I have yet to receive details on that meet.  However, at the conclusion of the meet our team goes to supper at Old Country Buffet.  We have reserved the community room and any family members that wish to join us may do so. The athlete's meal will be picked up by our Booster funds.

Finally, thinking beyond the season, there will road races that it would be nice for the runners to participate in throughout the off-season.  I would like to encourage you to consider checking some of those out to keep the incentive in your workout schedule.  One that Mr. Parry and I are going to compete in is the Gamehaven Cross Country Run in Rochester on Saturday, November 9 at 9:00 a.m.  I was thinking it might be fun for our running parents to join with your son or daughter and do it as a group.  Think about it!  More information can be found at minnesotarunner.com.

Austin Meet

The CC team will compete at Austin's Meadow Greens Golf Course Tuesday, October 8, same course as last year but with a different name.

Here is the schedule:

4:25  Junior high boys and girls
4:45  Varsity / JV girls
5:15  Varsity / JV boys

This will be the last junior high race of the season.  They've had an awesome season and I hope you can come and cheer them all on!

Swain Invite a Success!

The CC team withstood what mother nature threw at them in Duluth on Saturday as they performed in 30 mph winds, driving rain and temps under 50 degrees to claim 16th out of 30 teams for the varsity girls.  Individually, James Mathison placed 19th out of 184 varsity runners, and Dylan Deetz 7th out of 146 JV runners. Everyone did an awesome job rising to the occasion and making a memorable experience!

Picture Date Change to Monday, October 7th!

RUNNERS!  Please note the change to the date for pictures to Monday, October 7!  Due to the weather forecast for Thursday, tomorrow, and the wish to have the pictures outside, we are trying for a nice-weather Monday.  If the weather does not cooperate on Monday, plan for indoor pictures!
