Spring Sports Sign-up February 17 @ 7 P.M.

I hope everyone is finding a way to stay warm and maybe even conditioned! It's been a terribly cold and icy winter so some of us have been finding ways to condition indoors even though we'd love to be outside, at least some of the time.

Reminder to any of you regarding the spring sports season that is fast-approaching.  The sign-up meeting for spring sports is next Monday, February 17 at 7 P.M. for the AD meeting, 7:30 for the individual coaches meetings. A note to any of you wanting to "be better" next fall; go out for track and field! It is a great complement to your full-year training schedule!  It doesn't mean you have to run the two-mile, like many think.  We've had many a sprinter run cross-country in the fall and 100's, 200's and 400's in the spring, as well as the middle and long distance races. Don't be afraid to try many events.  The more the better!  Multi- is the name of the game.

That leads me to a couple of recent events that I've attended.  I had the privilege to attend the Rochester Track Club's annual banquet and hear Olympian 1500m. runner Carrie Tollefson speak. She had some good things to say about her start in the sport of running.  The next week, I had the honor of hearing Olympic gold medalist pole-vaulter, Stacy Dragila speak at the Track and Field Coaches Clinic in Minneapolis. I got to hold her gold medal (awesome!) and have a little visit with her.  She mentioned that she was a "multi- sport and multi-event" athlete more than once.  I told her how much I appreciated that message as so many kids start to specialize at a young age and don't realize the benefits of being a multi-sport / multi-event athlete. She totally agrees!

That's all for now.  Stay warm and we hope to see you in a spring sport!
