Sections to State!

Chrissy is a 3-peat to State and Isaiah Advances Placing 10th!

What a night it was at Northern Hills for the Section meet!  Great efforts by all the runners last night.  Great cheering by the Stewie supporters!  It was a roller-coaster of emotions watching the athletes compete for what would be the last race of their season and for some, their careers.  Yet holding out the possibility of advancing the girls team in the top two and it was close.  Ten points separated the team from going to state.  It also feels like a premature end for Kailee who missed advancing as an individual by 1 place after a great effort in her race.

On the up side, they announced that it's the first time all the teams have been "complete" for scoring. The Stewie crew takes that as a personal accomplishment as we not only had a complete team, the boys placed 11th out of 23 teams! Way to go guys!  Two 7th graders debuted on that team and did a fine job.  The future is bright for both squads!

Some immediate business!  Mark your calendars for Monday, November 9th, 7-9 p.m. for our C.ake C.elebration! (and beverage) provided by the boosters in the High School Cafeteria.

I'm checking into a possible fan bus to go to the State Meet next Saturday, November 7th to cheer on Isaiah and Chrissy at the meet.  Chrissy runs at 1:00 and Isaiah at 2:00.  Awaiting more details so stay tuned!

For the athletes that are done with their season, please wash all your garments and return them in a bag with your name on it.  Also, 3 bright green or black watches are missing with GPS capabilities.  They are marked with Stewie CC on them.  Athletes and parents, will you please keep an eye out for all things Stewie CC and make a grand effort to get them returned.  Our program is growing and we need all our inventory.  Thank you!
Girls are HVL CHAMPIONS!!

What a night it was in ZM on Tuesday!  Some have asked when the last time is that we've won so I called Mr. G. (former head coach, 42 years) and he said go check the trophy case!  I haven't had time to do that yet, but suffice it to say, it's been a while, if at all. Props to our female athletes for all their hard work paying off at just the right time and in quite dramatic fashion.  I dissected the results and with a one point win over second place tie between Lake City and ZMKW, the breakdown shows that runner by runner we were tied after the first 2 runners with ZMKW then in 2nd for runners 3 and 4 and finally went ahead by one point on our fifth runner (Autumn Feine) by .3 seconds for the victory!  To each runner, way to stay the course to the finish! That is truly teamwork to the end!  The results are here and in the page to the right.

CONGRATULATIONS to HVL All-Conference honorees Chrissy Lofgren, Kailee Malone, and Isaiah Scruggs who placed 4th in the boys race in a PB time of 17:18, dropping 9 seconds!  Way to go Isaiah!

Other PB performances included Jon Beach -10, Kayla Schlechtinger, -3; Maddie Rediske, -11.

Coming up next week, Thursday, Northern Hills Golf Course, 4 pm the Boys Section race and 4:45 Girls Section race.  Top 8 finishers and top 2 teams advance to the State meet on November 7th in Northfield.

All athletes are able to join us at the Section meet to cheer on their teammates. After the awards ceremony, the bus will take us to the Old Country Buffet for a meal.  The boosters will pick up the cost to the athletes.  If any parents would like to join us, we have the back Community Room reserved so please feel free!

I am looking to finalize a date for the banquet.  I know fall sports start right   after the state meet so things get wild quickly.  I will let you know soon!

Finally, if you have any good photos for the newspaper, please send them to Bill Schroeder at starsports@stewiestar.com.  I send pictures most weeks if I have some but they often times don't make it in.  I think if community members send them, he knows there is an interest beyond the coach, and may be more inclined to give us coverage. :D

Exciting days for the CC Tigers!  Go Team!

Updates

Last night at Chatfield was full of great effort, change and success.  The biggest thing I felt was a sense of team pulling together, cheering for and supporting each other and sharing how much it meant to them hearing their teammates get them through a rough part of the race.  That is a tough course!  We were without two veterans on varsity with Chrissy not able to finish and Marie out with an injury.  With that, the others really rose to the occasion and did a nice job placing 2nd to a very strong LFC team.

As I said at practice this week, the strong crew of seniors have really developed this team into what it has become, a young, intentional and excited team that can see their possibilities.  They've been loyal and hard-working for many years and with Chrissy's trips to the state meet, it shows each runner what is possible.  That has made the entire team stronger and we are reaping the benefits as a team!

Ronda Lovelace has added some awesome pictures to the Shutterfly account for you all to enjoy.  Mr. Orvis has added some recently and may add more (?) so please check that out at the link to your right, just under the results link. Thank you for doing that for the team!

On a side note, we know our athletes are wonderful on and off the course.  Check out this link to see one of them in a totally different role.  Way to make us proud Heather!

This week we will practice Thursday, Friday and possibly Saturday for those that can, varsity and junior varsity.  Next Tuesday at Austin will be the last junior high meet. It is also round 2 "Gimme Some of That" day so reminder, if you did not bring snacks to Lake City, you're up next Tuesday!

The next meets will be exciting as we are looking to be healthy, full-strength and fired up to see what we can do as a team at Conference and Sections!

Go Tigers!

Swain Invite a Success!

The weather in Duluth was perfect for cross country running and the athletes did a fine job representing Stewartville on and off the course.  The coaches were very proud of them all!  The team results are here as well as in the results link to the right.  The individual results are here as well as in the link to right.  Scroll down to the correct race and division.

Chatfield is on Tuesday and Austin next Tuesday with our second round of "gimme some of that" on the Austin trip. Those that did not bring snacks to Lake City are on tap to bring something to share next Tuesday.  I hope to see the Stewie supporters out on the course!

During MEA break we will practice at 9 a.m. Thursday and Friday mornings til 11:00, possibly 11:30 if we go out of town.
