Kailee and Laura Head to STATE!

This is a little delayed, but the news is just as exciting, KAILEE AND LAURA ARE GOING TO STATE!   Hard work and determination have paid off and we are all excited to see them participate at the state meet next Saturday, November 5th at St. Olaf in Northfield.  The ladies will compete in the morning session this year at 11:00 a.m.  It looks to be a cool and sunny day as of today.

The Section meet was full of emotion as things played out in unpredictable fashion for the girls team.  They ended up tied for 2nd and lost the tiebreaker for a third place finish.  We are so thankful we have two representing us at state (KAILEE & LAURA!) and nearly three, with Isabel missing advancement by 1 place!  The ladies ran with heart and soul and had several near PB races amongst them.

The boys ran well and had several near PB performances.  Isaiah led the way in an effort to get back to state but it wasn't meant to be this year.  More heartache for the Tigers.  His teammates ran well and Christopher wound up with the final PB of the season dropping 7 seconds.  Well done!  They moved up from 11th last year to 10th!  It was a good, growing season for the boys.  Next year, they'll still be predominantly "young" and will continue to make a name for themselves.

The banquet has been set for a week from Monday, November 7th at 6:15 p.m. at Bear Cave Intermediate School cafeteria.  POTLUCK is back on the menu by popular demand!  Your kids love your home cooking and LOVE the potlucks so we are going to oblige them.  They've worked hard for it!  The building closes at 8 p.m. so we will scoot things along to stay on pace to finish at that time.

Thanks to everyone for their AWESOME help at the concession stand for the many football games.  Mr. and Mrs. Orvis did a great job coordinating the efforts!  We're done for 2016!!

All runners, please bag your CLEAN uniform items, put in a bag with a PAPER ON THE OUTSIDE listing the numbers on each item.  You can bring them to my room.  Also, a few watches are still out.  Parents, they are lime green  or pink so if you could help your runner get them back to me, should one be spotted.  Thanks!

See you @ State and the banquet!

HVL -- Smackdown!

The Stewie Tigers were out in force yesterday claiming 16 PB's top to bottom on a perfect racing day with a perfect home course advantage, perhaps!  Abby set the pace with Kailee at her wing chasing the front runner and pulling them to PB's with Abby cutting 23 seconds from last week and besting her PB by 10 seconds in 19:12.1, while Kailee ran determined to hang close and cut an amazing 39 seconds off her previous PB from a week ago in a time of 19:15.7!

Close behind were Laura and Isabel running together and dropping 16 and 18 more seconds, respectively, posting a time of 20:09.5, Laura, and 20:12.0, Isabel.  If that wasn't enough, number 5 runner, Gracie, ran a PB 20:54.2, dropping another 1:04 from her previous PB time! Who does that? Emily came along and bested her 2015 PB by 5 seconds by dropping 21 seconds off last week to do so! Amazing!  Unfortunately, Taylor was plagued by a side stitch throughout the entire race so was not in PB mode but finished like a Tiger despite the pain; way to go Taylor!

JV girls were also in record-breaking mode as Hayley ran a 23:51 dropping 1:12 off her previous best!  Lori ran 24:02 cutting 1:08 and Maddie, running for her Aunt Pat who is fighting cancer, slashed 45 seconds running in 25:47!  Whaaat!? Way to go Ladies!

Our girls had FIVE All-Conference runners in the top 18!  What a performance and Congratulations ABBY, KAILEE, LAURA, ISABEL AND GRACIE!!  They captured 1st place for the 2nd year in a row with a score of 31 to Lake City's 66. Wooot!

Next up:  Lake City and LFC next week for the Section meet and our opportunity to advance to the state meet!  Parents, keep them fed, watered, and RESTED!

Not to be outdone by the girls team, the boys did an outstanding job and records were falling there as well. To start, Isaiah dropped another 7 seconds from last week running 17:42.3 and is setting up for a fight next week to extend his season. Keep the fire Isaiah!  Alex dropped another 28 seconds (!) to beat his PB in 18:19.4 placing 2nd for the Tigers. Sweet! Scott ran another 20 seconds faster than last week in 18:35.6 (!)for a PB performance and Christopher dropped 2 seconds for a PB in 19:29.1.  Dylan was next and he dropped a big 38 seconds for a PB in 19:31.5!  Jakob rounded out the varsity team dropping 20 more seconds for a 19:48.9 PB performance. Super job varsity boys!

The varsity boys had TWO All-Conference honors recognizing ISAIAH placing 8th and BRADON receiving a hardship All-Conference recognition due to a recent knee injury that kept him out of competition.  The coaches vote on it, acknowledging that his times were consistent with a top 18 finish had he been able to run.  They placed 5th as a team in the HVL, up from 7th last year beating Byron by 3 points and only 6 points from Lourdes....next year guys!

Our JV boys finished their seasons besting their times as well with Ian dropping to 17:19.9, (3 second PB) and Shawn dropping .2 seconds in 20:53.7; we'll take it! Jack met his goal to break 25:00 by slashing 1:05 running in 24:46.9(!) and Dylan Yennie set his first mark in the 5k distance running a 23:27.2. Logen was our final competitor last night running just off PB pace in 20:25.  Great efforts and enthusiasm by the entire team!

Other business: Varsity Practice for the TOP 9 Runners through the rest of the season!  Tomorrow, Thursday @ 9:00 a.m. meet at my room.  We should be done about 10:30.  Friday is practice on their own.  Next practice will be Monday after school.

Section meet is next Thursday, OCT. 27th.  Girls race @ 3:50 and boys @ 4:45 @ Northern Hills golf course, Rochester.

We will go out to eat afterwards like in the past, all teammates.  Looking at Broadway Pizza, but stay tuned.

We are looking into two dates for our banquet, 11/3 and 11/17.  Details to follow.

Finally, I still have a couple jackets and a sweatshirt and some cash!  Please come and claim your items from my room!

Go Tiger CC!!

Austin Wrap Up

What a fun night it was at Austin with so many SPAM shirts coming home with our runners and MANY PB performances.  The final run of the season for Jr. High and they totaled 6 PB's between the boys and girls with some pretty significant drops in time. Olivia Seim (-36); Evelyn Van Ess (-24); Josh Cummins (-1:00!); Seth Golley (-43) after time off with a concussion!; Walker Bishop (-31); and Jordan Parry (-58!). Great effort and great season to our junior high crew!

Varsity boys and girls also ran well with more PB performances.  For the girls it was Laura Pedelty (-28); Isabel Field, (-24); Taylor Smith (-1:16!!) dropping significant time.  For the boys it was Alex Lawrence (-53), Scott Boelman (-27), Christopher Remling (-18), Jakob Ratelle (-9), and Logen Faulhaber (-17).  Wow, their efforts are paying off and we're seeing them reap their rewards.  Sweet.

While not quite getting a PB, Abby ran to a solid first place finish in 19:35 and Ian almost tied his PB in 17:24 to win for JV.  Isaiah is coming into his own dropping 30 seconds tonight getting him closer to his PB of last year and a season best. A big welcome back to Kailee Malone after being sidelined for a couple races. She came back "well rested" and had a very strong performance placing 3rd! Awesome efforts all around everyone!

Did I mention that the girls won tonight over Lake City 30-49??!! First apple pie, now donuts! What a season!

Reminder, Thursday will be a team practice/dinner at Autumn Feine's home in Spring Valley.  We will leave directly from school at 3:15 and return about 6 p.m.

Home meet for the HVL conference next Tuesday. Mr. Glomski will be in touch about help needed.  Praying for the rain to hold or it will be a very soggy, wet course!

A Housekeeping note:  I have 2 duffel bags in my room, a blue sweatshirt and some coinage and a black ski jacket with some money in the pocket (left at my house Friday). Also, a thermal lunch bag with 2 yogurts from the homecoming run.  Yum!  Please come claim your stuff!

Junior high can turn in their cleaned inventory with numbers to each item clearly written on paper attached to a bag.  We can save your items all together for next year if properly identified and packaged.  Thanks in advance!!

Go Tigers!

Chatfield and More!

Great job today at Chatfield by both the boys and girls teams! We took a solid second place with the combined times of both teams.  Well done! It was a good preview of the Section meet with LFC and RAHS in full force.  With the hills, death valley, and the deep mud, it was a memorable run with some strong competition.

Next week, Tuesday, we are at Austin.  Information has been sent out about that. This Saturday and next Saturday, the varsity and JV will have a Saturday workout in Rochester.  The minibus will leave SHS at 8:45 and return at 11:00. I will fill the mini-bus and then those that can drive to join us, can meet up in Rochester.

Our season is quickly coming to a close. It's been great, but we are far from finished yet.  We have some healthy workouts coming up and runners need to tend to their nutrition and sleep now more than ever as we come into tournament time.  Remember NOT to share water bottles, get lots of sleep and drink plenty of fluids.  Some are still figuring out their lunch and eating needs. Parents, help them to understand that they need to eat nutritiously but also, within three hours of race time!  Some are trying to run after their last meal was 5 hours prior.  We can be even better if we are mindful of these things!

Have a great weekend and enjoy the run!
